Abstract
This is a preface to a commemorative volume published on the occasion of Prof. Adam Ziółkowski's 70th birthday, summarizing his outstanding contribution to the study of ancient history. In it, the authors introduce the professor's remarkably broad range of research interests, which include the topography of Rome, early Christianity, and the ethnogenesis of the Celts and Slavs. They also highlight his immense erudition, critical mind, and rare ability to inspire other scholars and draw groundbreaking conclusions from their analyses.
