Abstract

The scientific article presents an overview of Roman rural settlement in eastern Languedoc, confronting the theories of Jerzy Kolendo with the latest discoveries of modern agrarian archaeology. The author describes a complex network of Roman villas and settlements that reflected the economic diversification and social hierarchy of the Gallo-Roman population. The researcher demonstrates how local provincial communities adapted Roman technical and architectural innovations, creating a unique economic system.
